Medical and health transport in Belgium

Did you know that medical transport in Belgium can be completely different depending on where you live? For our country, everything is governed by three regions: Flanders, Wallonia and Brussels. For example, in the Walloon region, private services must comply with a law on private ambulance services in order to operate. They must meet numerous criteria regarding the equipment in the ambulance, its model and dimensions. They must obtain a certificate after taking courses and completing internships, continually retrain, prove that the equipment is regularly disinfected with suitable disinfection products, eliminate waste that could be infected by special means, be at least two per ambulance and both certified, etc.

If you live in Brussels and you call an ambulance, do not think you are safe, in this region there are still no laws concerning the

medical transport in Belgium so that the service you are going to call can still today send you pseudo ambulance drivers who have never followed the slightest course and who have no experience in the profession, incredible but true, your life is not protected because if your condition requires urgent care there is no guarantee that these people will be able to give it to you, most of them will be content to put you on a stretcher and transport you to the hospital, at random.

We took matters into our own hands of our own free will well before medical transport in Belgium was taken seriously in the Walloon and Flemish regions, our staff was already qualified, trained and experienced well before the legislation on the subject in Wallonia, we believe that we do not want to run the risk of coming to help someone if we have neither the means nor the skills, the consequences for the victim who calls us could even be fatal, it is high time that the Brussels region puts some order in this area.

You can therefore see that medical and health transport in Belgium is not taken with the same measures depending on your region. We consider it unthinkable that even today this area does not have the effect of greater responsibility on the part of Brussels elected officials. An ambulance service should be regulated as is now the case in other regions. It is unacceptable that the lives of patients who need help are still exposed in this way. The risk remains significant for a population that is nonetheless significant. It is high time that these elected officials take their responsibilities and put some order in their region.
